Jacob H. Schultz

Associate

    Jacob is a member of the Professional Liability Department where he focuses on defending claims made and suits brought against attorneys, real estate professionals, insurance agents and brokers, corporate officers and directors and other professionals. Jacob also assists with privacy and data breach matters, helping clients to reduce cyber risk exposures and navigate incident response, containment, and compliance measures following a data breach.

    Prior to joining Marshall Dennehey, Jacob was an Assistant District Attorney for the Philadelphia District Attorney's Office. During his time there, he worked on a wide range of matters on behalf of the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania, including felony preliminary hearings and misdemeanor trials, inter-state extraditions, appeals, and Post Conviction Relief Act petitions. Jacob argued cases in both the Municipal and Common Pleas Courts of Philadelphia and submitted a brief to the Superior Court of Pennsylvania resulting in a favorable disposition regarding the lawfulness of an inter-state extradition decision.  

    Upon graduation from law school, Jacob clerked for the Honorable J. Christopher Gibson, J.S.C. of the Superior Court of New Jersey, where he assisted the Judge with ruling on pre-trial motions, drafting opinions and trial procedure. During his last year of law school, Jacob was an intern law clerk for the Honorable C. Darnell Jones, II at the Eastern District of Pennsylvania as well as President of OUTLaw, Drexel University Kline School of Law's LGBTQIA+ Affinity Group.

    Before law school, Jacob studied East Asian Languages and Civilizations at the University of Chicago where he specialized in both Japanese and Chinese studies, achieving business-level fluency in both languages. He has also spent significant time living, studying or working abroad in Kyoto, Beijing, and Taipei. 

    Outside of work, Jacob composes electronic music, reads fiction, mystery, and historical non-fiction novels, as well as continues to maintain proficiency in the foreign languages he speaks. He also spends time keeping up-to-date with current trends in Artificial Intelligence, Cryptocurrency, Data Privacy, International Relations, and Foreign Policy.
