Jason Banonis Elected to the Board of Governors of Bowie State University’s Maguire Academy for Risk Management and Insurance
Jason Banonis, shareholder in Marshall Dennehey’s King of Prussia office, has been elected to the Board of Governors of the Bowie State University Maguire Academy for Risk Management and Insurance. He will also serve on its Education, Curriculum and Program Committee.
The Academy is affiliated with the Saint Joseph’s University Maguire Academy of Insurance & Risk Management, which was created by Saint Joseph’s alumnus James J. Maguire, founder and longtime CEO of the Philadelphia Insurance Company. Its purpose is to promote and support education in insurance, risk management, and actuarial science and offers services to its students, including scholarships, internships and co-op experiences, counseling, and assistance with career placement. Current academy board members include executives from global insurance companies and corporate risk managers.
Banonis joined Marshall Dennehey in 2002, primarily focusing on casualty litigation. He has handled the defense of hundreds of premises liability, retail and motor vehicle matters, trying several cases to verdict. He represents many Fortune 500 companies and a considerable number of service providers in sports and entertainment, retail, corrections, healthcare, facilities, restaurant and bar industries.
Among his numerous professional affiliations, Jason is a past president and current board member of the Pennsylvania Defense Institute (PDI), and chairs its Governmental Affairs Committee. In 2020, he received PDI’s "Defense Attorney of the Year" award for his statewide efforts to reopen Pennsylvania courts and law offices during the Covid-19 pandemic. During that time period he was also honored with the “Pennsylvania Trailblazer” award from The Legal Intelligencer.
Active in the Defense Research Institute (DRI), Banonis is a member of the DRI Center State Legislation and Rules Task Force. He has participated as a panelist and moderator for numerous CLE programs and was the recipient of its Exceptional Performance Citation for 2019-2020.
A graduate of Bucknell University and Widener University School of Law, Banonis is admitted to practice in Pennsylvania and New Jersey. His federal court admissions include the Eastern, Middle, and Western Districts of Pennsylvania; the District of New Jersey; the Third Circuit Court of Appeals; and the United States Supreme Court.
