We successfully defended an architect and his firm against allegations of professional negligence claimed by the plaintiff - a developer/owner of a $7 million commercial project our client helped design. The plaintiff was initially seeking damages in excess of $1 million. However, the jury, after six hours of deliberation, found the plaintiff 95% negligent and our client only 5% negligent. The jury also determined that the plaintiff failed to take actions to stop any further damages, which reduced the verdict even more. The jury returned a final verdict of only $1,350. Under Florida law, we were able to seek defense costs and attorney fees against the plaintiff as a result of the minimal verdict.
