Attorneys obtained summary judgment in a legal malpractice case where our client defended a wealthy landlord who as convicted of laundering drug proceeds from the Junior Black Mafia and was sentenced to ten years in federal prison. He sued his lawyer on the basis that the lawyer gave him bad advice to go to trial when all he ever wanted was to plead guilty. While the lawyer initially expected a guilty plea, the government was never able to show him admissible evidence proving his client's guilt and the lawyer therefore counseled trial. Unfortunately, the government came up with additional evidence, including a shoebox filled with a large sum of cash, and that evidence was evidently enough for the jury. The government never actually offered a plea deal which the defendant was willing to accept and trial was therefore inevitable.
