Kimberly Kanoff Berman Becomes Board Certified in Appellate Practice by The Florida Bar

Kimberly Kanoff Berman, Special Counsel in the Fort Lauderdale office of Marshall Dennehey Warner Coleman and Goggin, recently became board certified in Appellate Practice by The Florida Bar. Board certification is the Bar’s highest level of evaluation of the competency and experience of an attorney in the designated area of the law, and only board-certified attorneys may refer to themselves as “experts” or “specialists” in their field. To obtain the certification, Ms. Berman had to satisfy a rigorous slate of requirements, including briefing and oral argument thresholds, extensive continuing legal education, peer review, and a six-hour exam designed to demonstrate sufficient knowledge, proficiency, and experience in appellate practice. There are over 100,000 members of the Florida Bar, of which only 205 attorneys are board certified in appellate practice.

As a member of Marshall Dennehey’s Appellate Advocacy and Post-Trial Practice Group, Ms. Berman litigates numerous appeals in Florida state and federal appellate courts across a wide variety of subject matters. She has successfully litigated cases involving medical malpractice, construction defect, insurance coverage, bad faith, maritime, aviation, and premises liability. In addition to her extensive appellate practice, Ms. Berman provides litigation support in insurance coverage, construction defect, premises liability, professional malpractice, and bad faith cases.

She is actively involved in the legal community, serving on the Board of Trustees for the Florida Supreme Court Historical Society as co-chair of the Communications Committee and on the Florida Bar Appellate Practice Section's Executive Council as vice chair of the Legislative Committee. Additionally, she is a past president of the Third District Court of Appeal Historical Society, and a member of the Dade County Bar Association, and the Rosemary Barkett American Appellate Inn of Court.

Ms. Berman has contributed countless hours to the Guardian ad Litem’s “Defending Best Interests Project,” where she defends the best interests of dependent children when challenged on appeal. She is rated AV® Preeminent™ by Martindale-Hubbell® and has been consistently recognized on the Florida Super Lawyers Rising Stars list since 2015. She was listed in the South Florida Legal Guide as a Top Up and Comer in Appellate Practice in 2020.

She has presented on appellate and litigation support topics and authored numerous articles on important issues impacting appellate and trial lawyers. She has also served as adjunct faculty at Nova Southeastern University Shepard Broad College of Law, Ave Maria School of Law, and St. Thomas University School of Law. Ms. Berman guest lectures at FIU College of Law.

A graduate of the University of Florida and the University of Miami School of Law, she is  admitted to practice law in Florida, the U.S. District Courts for the Southern, Middle and Northern Districts of Florida, and the U.S. Court of Appeals, 3rd and 11th Circuits.
