Butler Buchanan, III Receives 2021 Diversity Leaders in Business Award from the Philadelphia Business Journal

Butler (Buck) Buchanan, III, Managing Attorney of Marshall Dennehey’s Philadelphia headquarters office, has been named a recipient of the Philadelphia Business Journal’s 2021 Diversity Leaders in Business Awards. The recognition celebrates the region’s most influential diverse business leaders based on professional accomplishments, community involvement and philanthropy. Mr. Buchanan and the other honorees will be recognized at an awards ceremony and in the Business Journal later this month.

Mr. Buchanan has been integral to the leadership and growth of Marshall Dennehey since joining the firm in 1999. In addition to his responsibilities as the Philadelphia Office Managing Attorney, he serves as the firm’s Attorney Hiring Chair, where he oversees firm-wide recruitment and hiring. He additionally chairs the firm’s Diversity, Equity & Inclusion Committee, and he has served two terms on Marshall Dennehey’s Board of Directors. 

Among his many professional activities, he is a member of the House of Delegates of the American Bar Association and co-chairs the Large Law Firm Management Committee of the Philadelphia Bar Association. He is a current member and a past-president of the Philadelphia Association of Defense Counsel and serves on the Board of Directors of the Insurance Society of Philadelphia. He is additionally a member of the Pennsylvania Defense Institute and the Defense Research Institute, where he has served on its Board of Directors.

Earlier this year, Mr. Buchanan received the 2021 Renaissance Man Award from the Philadelphia Chapter of the National Bar Association Women Lawyers Division (NBA/WLD), which recognizes an African-American man who has demonstrated commitment to the empowerment, advancement and full participation of women of color in the legal profession.

He is a graduate of Millersville University and Duquesne University School of Law.
