Carla D. Candelario

Associate

    Carla is an associate in our Casualty Department where she handles matters involving personal injury protection, SIU, bodily injury, and general liability on behalf of a several insurance carriers.

    Carla attended Florida International University, where she received a bachelor's in political science and minored in International Relations.
     
    Carla earned her juris doctor from the University of Miami School of Law. While in law school, Carla received the book award for Research & Writing. She taught middle schoolers about the US legal system while participating in Miami STREET law, an education, legal outreach program. Carla also worked on the project “Wage Theft Advocacy Project” where she worked with attorneys from National Day Laborer Organizing Network to assist with pro bono cases to help low-paid migrant workers with wage theft claims. The project received the Miami Law’s HOPE public interest Resource Center’s “Innovative Service in the Public Interest Award”. In addition, Carla worked on the Human Rights Clinic’s Time’s Up project, where she focused on employment discrimination law to assist in combating sexual harassment against low-wage, women, immigrant workers. In this work, she was able to co-author and submit a report concerning migrant workers’ experiences related to workplace sexual harassment, on behalf of Miami Law’s Human Rights Clinic, for the United Nation’s Universal Periodic Review in 2020. 
     
    Carla has been recognized in the Miami Law’s HOPE Pro Bono Challenge for completing more than 75 hours of legal-related pro bono service while in law school. She has volunteered for many different organizations and projects, for example, she worked for “Protect the People Clinic” and conducted legal screening for immigration cases with Florida Immigrant Coalition and Americans for Immigrant Justice. In addition, she has volunteered in gathering data for the Fines and Fees Justice Center.

    Outside of work, Carla enjoys traveling, cooking and spending time with friends and family. She is admitted to practice in the state of Florida.
