Debra M. Marcus
Areas of Practice
As a member of the firm’s Health Care Department, Debra concentrates her practice in medical malpractice. She has significant litigation and trial experience, having defended hundreds of dentists in the defense of malpractice claims and in investigations before the New Jersey State Board of Dentistry.
Before joining Marshall Dennehey, Debra was a partner at Schechner Marcus LLP where she represented health care professionals in all facets of their practice including defense of malpractice claims, licensing matters, and purchase and sales of practices. Debra has successfully obtained defense verdicts on behalf of her clients. She has represented licensed professional before multiple State Boards including, dental, social work, optometrist and medical. She has also defended doctors who have been audited by the New Jersey Department of Insurance Fraud Division, Delta Dental and The Guardian.
Debra also has experience handling matters related to coverage litigation, including flood, mold, fire loss, toxic tort, asbestos and premises liability, as well as defending claims involving construction site accidents, premises liability, wrongful death, liquor liability and environmental litigation.
Debra received her B.S. from Boston University, College of Communication. She received her J.D. from Benjamin N. Cardozo School of Law, where she served on the Moot Court Board and was a legal writing teaching assistant. She is admitted to practice in New Jersey and the United States District Court for the District of New Jersey.
Debra has presented risk management talks at various Dental Study Clubs, and presented a course on jury selection and ethical considerations for the New Jersey Division of Law.
