Attorneys obtained a defense verdict in an ephedra/basilar artery stroke trial. Plaintiff suffered a brainstem stroke after ingestion of a dietary supplement containing ephedra, which contains ephedrine, which is in a class of drugs loosely implicated to cause cerebral vasospasm. 26 years old at the time, plaintiff remains wheelchair bound at 36, paralyzed on one side, with use of one hand to control his wheelchair and with barely intelligible speech but normal cognition. A defense was offered on both general causation as well as individual causation.
