Attorney obtained a defense verdict in a medical negligence case. Defendants, two family practice physicians, were alleged to have breached the standard of care by failing to inform the patient that a wound culture came back positive for Methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus (MRSA); failing to prescribe antibiotics that would cover a MRSA infection, and failing to warn the patient of proper precautions to take in order to avoid the spread of the infection to family members. The patient's minor son was hospitalized for over a week for a MRSA infection that required surgical intervention. It was undisputed that the physicians did not advise the patient her wound had cultured positive for MRSA until months later, when the patient requested the results of the culture after the patient's son had been hospitalized. The jury found in favor of the physicians on standard of care.
